Born 1965 in Warsaw, Poland.
Paweł Zaręba studied painting and graphic arts at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig, Germany. He earned his diploma under the guidance of Prof. Heinz Wagner and later continued his postgraduate studies at the same institution. He has been a recipient of numerous scholarships, including the Berkenhoff-Stipendium, Worpswede, Kulturfonds Berlin, Kunstfonds Sachsen. He currently lives and works in Zalesie Górne, Poland.
Zaręba’s artistic practice exists at the intersection of painting, space, and expressive artistic intervention. His works combine minimalist form with dynamic painterly expression, emphasizing the ephemeral nature of the “here and now.” Rather than imposing new meanings, his art allows the viewer to engage directly with reality and its immediacy.
In his formal explorations, Zaręba works with contrasts—ranging from meticulously executed monochromatic canvases and “alucobond” panels to delicate paper compositions and spontaneous, expressive gestures on gallery walls. His work raises questions about the artist’s presence within the artwork. In his flawlessly smooth surfaces, traces of artistic labor vanish, giving way to the viewer’s reflection, while his interventions in gallery spaces serve as direct, physical records of the creative process. In Zaręba’s world, the viewer is not merely a participant but an explorer, stepping into an intimate space shaped by silence and focus.
Since 2018, Paweł Zaręba has been actively supporting the independent art scene by co-founding the Lescer Art Center in Zalesie Górne. This unique space, reborn within the walls of a restored 1920s villa, has become a hub for creative dialogue between history and contemporary art. Thanks to his involvement, Lescer is more than just a gallery—it is a vibrant center for artistic residencies and experimentation, where old interiors pulse with new energy. By revitalizing forgotten spaces, Zaręba plays a key role in shaping the local art scene, opening it up to fresh ideas and unexpected encounters.
